Open Question: Good home excercises ?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

So, I DO NOT want to buy any gym equipment or a gym membership.
I am a teen, so I currently live with my parents and they would tell me that if I want to lose any weight that I should either spend my own money on equipment or memberships… or the second option would be to do home exercises. I don’t have the money to buy anything like that, so I obviously chose home exercising.

I am looking to lose fat around my
- Thighs/Legs
- Stomach
- Love Handles

And yes, I do know that you are not just going to lose weight by exercising. You must eat healthy too. I have that part covered already. :)
CURRENTLY, I am doing these exercises:
For my thighs/legs, I am currently doing 25 squats and jumping jacks (?) a day.
For my love handles, I am currently doing 25 twists (?) a day.
For my stomach, I am currently doing 25 crunches a day.
[ (?) = I’m not sure if those are the real exercising names, but that’s what I call them. ]

So, what are your suggestions for home exercising?
Thank you for your help, time, and for reading this rather long message… haha. :)

Open Question: Gym experience: Tips for a beginner?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I want to join a gym and I’m kind of scared because I don’t think I’ll know what to do with everything and I’m a pretty meek person (personality flaw yeah I know tell me about it) and I’m generally afraid to approach people. I can only afford a basic membership right now. It’s a pretty big gym and I expect most gyms have the same type of equipment. What are the most important rules to follow? Is there someone there to show new people how to use the machine properly or do I need to hire a personal trainer to do that? Are there any good websites that you use to plan a routine? I’m 22 female whos looking to lose weight and maybe build a little bit of muscle, but not alot. I have a website that recommends diets to follow but I nothing on routines. Are there specific do’s and dont’s that you wish other members would follow? Tell me what youve experienced as a new gym member and how you learned the ropes?

Open Question: I want to be in good shape but the amount of information on how to do it is overwhelming. Help?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I’m 19 and I’ve always been a fat kid. It’s had a horrible impact on my self esteem and entire life in general. I’ve never had one girlfriend. Right now I’m 265 lbs and I’m tired of making excuses. I want to change more than anything. But I just don’t know where to even begin. I skimmed through Atkins and the amount of information was insane. My biggest fear is the room for error and I feel that may happen on a strict diet like that and I won’t see any results. I got a gym membership too, but I’m not sure what exactly I should be working out. I’ve just been doing a lot of cardio and random equipment (in one trip). Can someone please tell me how I can do this right?

Thanks

Open Question: Please Rate My Essay!?

All my accomplishments were hard won, but one stands out as the most difficult of all and provided the most satisfaction. Losing over 60 pounds in one year ranks as my greatest achievement. Sacrifices were made, changes were implemented and physical and mental boundaries were stretched.
For as long as I can remember food was always abundant. Although I was never overweight, my eating habits were not the best and I was never interested in physical activities. Eventually my luck ran short and without noticing, I began gaining weight, little by little, until my sophomore year. At the age of fifteen, at 5’ 8” I already weighed 185 pounds, by all measures I was considered overweight.
My moment of revelation literally stared me in the face—I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the reflection; I was disgusted with my form. From that day forward I decided not to be part of the growing 65% overweight Americans, instead I wanted to join the shrinking 35%. That was no ordinary day for me; it was the day a goal was set.
Dieting was the beginning of my journey. My plan was to eat one big meal per day, but it could consist of any type of food. After one miserable month I was grateful to find that my weight had fallen to 165.
At the second stage of my diet I did some research. I read that to speed up my metabolism I should eat five small portions of healthy food a day. The technique proved to work amazingly well; after eight weeks I weighed in at 140 pounds. This reading put me at the average level for my height, but there’s the problem, I’m not average I’m above and beyond average.
There was still something missing—exercise. Porky’s Gym became my new hang out and provided more than enough equipment to burn off my excess fat and sculpt my body. Six months into a dedicated aerobic and weight-lifting program resulted in satisfaction on the scale my ideal weight, 125 pounds.
Combining diet, exercise and will power finally resulted in a loss of 60 pounds. I feel ten times healthier and I’m proud that I was able to set my mind to a goal and successfully complete it. Through sheer determination I was able to achieve my greatest accomplishment of becoming a lean-mean fat burning machine.

Please be honest, Thank You!! :D

Open Question: I am starting WaterPolo so how can I improve my endurance, energy, eggbeating, and dribbling?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Alright, so i want to join water polo. Actually, i just got back from my first practice. It was really, really grueling, especially for me, having zero experience in ANY sport. (well, if you count band, :D)

So, i really can’t get the hang of this egg-beating concept.
Which direction do you turn your legs? I get they alternate, but for some reason, i cannot keep my head out of the water.

Also, i tried dribbling the ball, and i cant manage to keep it in front of me.

On top of all of that, i discovered that i also have zero endurance and stanima. I cant do pull a 50m without getting getting tired.

Now, practices are everyday for 2 hours, and the first game is in 2 weeks. (we are planning to forfiet the first 2 games, we got a really really late start.) So, by two weeks, if the rest of the team is ready to compete, and im the only one who isn’t strong enough to compete, i dont want them to forfiet the first 2 games because of me…

So I need to up my endurance and stanima, learn to egg-beat and dribble.

So like i said, practices are everyday, i dont have time to workout in between. ( I have tons of homework having 3 AP classes which i need to get all A’s on, and on the weekend, I have to do chores all weekend. Plus, i only have my permit…)

So what small things can i do like, when im sitting in class, or when im walking to class, or when im walking home after school, or when im folding clothes, or when im washing dishes, that can possibly help improve my stanima, egg-beating, and dribbling.

Also, is there a special diet i should be following?
Let’s say i do happen to find free time, what can I do that does not involve gym equipment to improve the aforementioned skills?

Finally…How long should i stretch before i hit the water? I cramped like half the time i was in practice. it was horrible watching everyone train while i sat there re-stretching.

Is there a good stretching routine i should follow?

Please help me
